Larry's birthday trip

Larry's birthday is March 13th and to celebrate this year, he wanted to go to Tenerife in the Canary Islands.  We arrived on Thursday the 10th to begin our adventure.

We got to our lovely hotel just in time for dinner by the pool

Friday

The next morning got to see our hotel in the daylight

Before venturing out, put on the sun screen and the instant tan (kind of doesn't make sense, does it?!)

The street our hotel was located on

Next up, try to figure out how to change the language on the navigation system (impossible!)
We don't speak German!

 Driving up the coast

Checking out some volcanic rock

My favorite part of the island Los Gigantes

Souvenirs and refreshments with a group of cyclists (crazy!!)  NO WAY would I ride a bike on this island!!

The only beach we set foot on

Sangria time

by another pool

Most delicious dinner

My first ever oyster from the shell

Cotton candy!!

Saturday

Breakfast by the pool

Nice to look at, never did get in it

After driving all over the island on Friday, we decided to take a stroll through the village our hotel was located in, Garachico

Bread delivery

I loved all the carved wood!

Took a walk through the volcanic rock

For dinner, we stopped at a VERY local restaurant.  Later I'll have to add my picture of the live fish that were brought in and put in the case

/

This is the largest calamari I have ever seen

A rooftop nightcap

Sunday

Finally a day without a cloud in the sky!  We got back in the car and headed to Tiede National Park
Mount Tiede is the highest mountain in Spain, 12,198 feet
It's an active volcano, last erupted in 1909

More lava rock

Having fun!

My ears were really not enjoying the altitude

The teleferico, our ride to the top

Made it!

 The crater

Above the clouds
My head is starting to hurt and feeling a bit wobbly from the thin air
but surprised how warm it was

Going down

So many different landscapes

A vent

Stopped for lunch alongside the road, they must have know it was his birthday!

An example of just one of the routes, very windy, very high
