Leeds Christmas Market

Yesterday Dana and I drove to Leeds to check out their Christmas market.  It was quite a sad, little market compared to the Manchester and York markets

Ready for a Bavarian lunch

Awhile back, Larry and I planned a trip to Brussels for their Christmas market and festival.  We'd fly to Amsterdam and then take the train to Brussels, coincidentally the same train that had an "incident" earlier.  Our reservations are for this Thursday.  I think we'll come up with a Plan B as the city is lockdown at the moment.

This week

On Tuesday, we drove to Leeds after Larry got off work to see Philly boy Kurt Vile
Showing some Paris love

After a long day of cleaning house, I thought we should go to the pub for dinner.
A new starter on the menu, pigeon on toast.  Larry ordered it, gave me a taste.  At least I tried it, but really who eats pigeon??!!!

Had the best conversation!  Can't wait to see her in 10 days!!

A romantic getaway

Friday night we popped on the train to the city of Chester, on the far western coast, very close to the border of Wales

Saturday morning we visited the hotel spa for some pampering
Mr. Movember waiting for his massage
I opted for a facial, hope all those products work miracles

Time for a walk around the city and a selfie
The Romans were everywhere!!!  This is part of the wall around city

On the wall, overlooking the canal
Tower
More ruins
The amphitheater
 The cathedral
Horse race track

Giving our feet a rest in the wine cellar

Sunday morning at Starbucks - you'd never know they were "at war with Christmas"
Christmas carols and cheer filled the shop

Sunday lunch

Prettiest, most delicious meal!!

Great weekend!!

In today's sad news....

The American section at Tesco is gone!!!

Replaced with Christmas pudding, mince pies and fruit cake!!

Some good buys over in the clearance section though

The hive is in shreds
Doesn't look like anything is living there anymore
The 8 year old me really wants to get up there and knock it down
Stay tuned

Weekend road tripping

On Saturday we took a trip to Cleethorpes in search of the beer store that is supposed to have American craft beer

I'd say the trip was a success

Saturday was the South Ferriby bonfire and fireworks celebrating Guy Fawkes.
I really wasn't in the mood so Larry got dinner reservations at the pub instead, good choice.
Even got a complimentary bowl of olives!  Must be one of our frequent diner perks.
Fireworks from the pub patio (not as blurry in person)

On Sunday, we went to Lincoln for some exploring

 The cathedral
Lincoln Castle

Time to brush up on some history, inside is one of 4 originals of the Magna Carta

 The prison

 Mr. Movember

Walking on the wall

The cathedral

It also happened to be Remembrance Day
We were treated to a parade at lunch

It was such a dreary, drizzly day so it was the perfect time for a cup of our Irish hot chocolate in my new mug, compliments of Gail.  A very good ending to a fun day!
