Larry and I rarely eat out since moving here. It's just really not convenient as there is nothing good that is close to us. Except, of course, our favorite Winteringham Fields (WF). But we try to limit our trips there to special occasions so that it is always a treat. We haven't been to the pub around the corner in ages and don't plan on going back!
British food isn't "bad" but it's not something that I've become accustomed to yet. (I wouldn't label the food at WF British food, more farm to table.) I'm not a fan of the meat pies and don't even get me started on "chips" (french fries). They eat chips with EVERYTHING!! Still can't get over the lady eating her lasagne with french fries. We did go out for Chinese food on Saturday, very good, wish it was closer. But the waiter asked if we wanted chips or rice. REALLY?!!! Chips shouldn't even be on the menu at a Chinese restaurant!!
When we heard last year that the owner/chef of WF had bought and was renovating the Hope and Anchor Pub, we got pretty darn excited. It's only a 10 minute walk from Humber Lodge. We had been here once, before the great flood of 2013. Let's just say it was pretty dodgy and I didn't want a return visit. The grand opening was scheduled for March 22nd, yesterday. I called and emailed weeks ago to get a booking but found out they were already full, for the next 4 weeks!!
We decided to take a walk and see if it was possible to just pop into the bar for a drink.
YES, a table was open!!
The whole pub is gorgeous!!
Not sure if I'll ever get used to dogs inside! The patio, yes but at the table, no.
This is Hope
I coaxed Larry into asking if they had any openings for dinner on Monday or Tuesday and SOOO HAPPY we got a reservation for Tuesday! Maybe someone cancelled? Can't wait!
